Carrick Utd. have won the FAI Junior Cup for the first time in their history.

They got their hands on the prestigious trophy by defeating holders Killester Utd. 2-1 in the final of the competition at the RSC in Waterford.

The Dublin side netted first through junior international Michael Keogh in the 28th minute of the first-half.

Carrick had a great chance to level the game shortly after the resumption when Darryl Kavanagh was taken down in the area.

However, he couldn’t take advantage of the situation and missed the penalty that the referee awarded.

Utd. got a major break in the 75th minute when Darren Murphy put through his own goal to restore parity.

Deep into injury time Carrick were awarded a second penalty, which was confidently dispatched by Alan Ryan and prompted great scenes of joy as the FAI Cup was handed over to captain Adrian Walsh.
