Criticism of plans to centralise Medical Card applications to Dublin

Government plans to centralise Nenagh’s Medical Card Section to Dublin next month are being criticised.

Deputy Noel Coonan points out that during the Celtic Tiger era the Government promoted decentralisation and moving jobs to the country.

The Fine Gael T.D says the move will adversely impact on the length of time it takes to process medical card applications.

It also means that applicants, local health office staff and public representatives in North Tipp will be unable to access information about the status of local medical card applications.

The matter will be discussed during the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children later this month along with Government plans to further centralise additional medical card and GP visit card processing.
