South Tipperary Deputy Tom Hayes says that some families who applied for the
Nursing Home Support Scheme are still awaiting payment five months later.

The new scheme was introduced in October last year to assist individuals who
are in long-term nursing home care.

Deputy Tom Hayes says the Minister for Health guaranteed that applications
of a complicated nature would take a month to process and more straight-forward
ones would be quicker.

He’s highly critical of the HSE for the ongoing delays.

The incident happened at around 2.30 when one of a group of walkers fell
and sustained a leg injury.

Cahir Gardai alerted the South East Mountain Rescue Association, who were
preparing to take part in Clonmel’s St Patrick’s Day parade.

The Coast Guard helicopter from Waterford attended the scene at Pigeon
Rock Glen, as well as 17 rescue team members.

In deteriorating weather conditions the man was winched aboard and flown
directly to Cork with a suspected broken leg.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midvwives Organisation’s Trolley Watch,
there were 13 patients without a bed yesterday evening at the Clonmel
facility.

The Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick had 11 patients on trollies.

The survey does not include Nenagh General Hospital.

The first major parade of the day gets underway in Templemore at 12.30
with the reviewing stand at the Town Hall.

Cahir’s parade also kciks off at 12.30.

Cashel is next at 2 o’clock with the parade assembling at Ladyswell Street.

Nenagh’s newly revived parade will assemble at Summerhill at 2.15, before
making its way down Pearse Street to the Market Cross reviewing stand and
then left down Kenyon Street.

Tipperary Town’s parade will assemble at the Plan on the Limerick Road at
2.30 and travel the length of Main Street to the Lidl car park.

Carrick on Suir’s parade will get underway at 3 o’clock from New Street down Main Street and ending at the Fairgreen.

Clonmel’s parade is the last of the day, starting at 3.30 from the Irishtown/Cantwell Street junction down through the town past the reviewing stand at the Town Hall on Parnell Street.

With good weather forecast, its looking like a pleasant day out all over Tipperary after a long winter.

Deputy Lowry last night launched a fierce attack on the official probe into
allegations of corrutpion surrounding the awarding of a second mobile phone
licence while he was Minister for Communications.

He says the tribunal acted improperly by not informing him until now that it
had interveiwed two officials from the Attorney General’s Office in 2002, which
he claims support his version of events.

It’s the latest attack in Deputy Lowry’s campaign to challenge the findings of
the tribunal.

Nenagh councillor Seamie Morris has accused Deputy Maire Hoctor of trying
to distance herself from the agency’s Horizon 2020 programme.

He says the IDA has consistently ignored the unemployed in North Tipp and
claims that because it is ultimately controlled by the Government, Deputy
Hoctor is responsible for the lack of investment as the only Fianna Fail deputy.

In response, Deputy Hoctor says she’s critical of the new strategy for not focussing
on North Tipperary, after only creating 13 jobs in the area over the past two years.

She says the report outlines how the IDA will go about its business over the next
ten years, but does not include a specific strategy for countering the unemployment
problems in North Tipperary.

Deputy Hoctor is calling for a tailored programme for North Tipperary to be put in
place.

Former County Councillor Michael Maguire was responding to newspaper reports which claim Tipperary Hostel Ltd. drew down almost €45,000 in funding last year based on invoices for work which had not been done.

Michael Maguire is now a driver for Minister of State Martin Mansergh while the Chairman of Tipperary Hostel Ltd is Martin Quinn who is also president of Muintir na Tire.

The company is working on the development of a former famine-era workhouse on Station Road in Tipp town - the €4 million development will see it transformed into self-catering accommodation for tourists.

Funding for the Fás project comes from dormant accounts which are administered by Pobal.

Michael Maguire is at pains to point out that everything is above board - he says it is standard practice to put in invoices ahead of work being done in order to have funds available.

55 year old James Power of Tracey Park in Carrick on Suir is taking an action in relation to a car crash which has resulted in him suffering from a form of claustrophobia.

When Mr Power said he felt unable to stay in the court yesterday Mr. Justice Sean Ryan said if the mountain cannot come to Mohammad, Mohammad must go to the mountain.

A table and chairs were set up outside the courthouse in Waterford where the case continued for a time.

James Power’s car was moved 100 yards along the road when the crash happened in November of 2007 - he suffered minor injuries but the court has heard that he also sustained major psychiatric insult as a result of the collision.

Irish Aero Sports Flying club has applied to South Tipp County Council for an air strip aswell and a storage shed at Clonoura, Glengoole in Thurles.

Permission is also being sought for an extension at Dualla National school.

The application includes the retention of the lunchroom on the north western side of the building, and a victorian letter box on the front wall, which is a listed structure.

Should the move go ahead it would be likely to involve a significant reduction in the Society’s ownership in the Group and would require the approval of both the Society’s members and Glanbia plc shareholders.

While discussions are said to be progressing well, there is no guarantee that they will result in a transaction being concluded.
