Should the move go ahead it would be likely to involve a significant reduction in the Society’s ownership in the Group and would require the approval of both the Society’s members and Glanbia plc shareholders.

While discussions are said to be progressing well, there is no guarantee that they will result in a transaction being concluded.

Deputy Noel Coonan points out that during the Celtic Tiger era the Government promoted decentralisation and moving jobs to the country.

The Fine Gael T.D says the move will adversely impact on the length of time it takes to process medical card applications.

It also means that applicants, local health office staff and public representatives in North Tipp will be unable to access information about the status of local medical card applications.

The matter will be discussed during the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children later this month along with Government plans to further centralise additional medical card and GP visit card processing.

The petition is currently available at the offices of the Clonmel Borough Council, but South Tipp Fianna Fail Deputy Mattie McGrath is calling for it to be rolled out across the County.

The Fianna Fail representative is calling on the Save Our Hospital Committee to also open petitions in shops, pubs, post offices and businesses across the region.

Mattie McGrath is urging as many people as possible sign it in protest against any possible cuts to acute services at the Clonmel hospital.

Seamus Kavanagh of Kyle, Killea, Templemore together with three other men
are said to have borrowed the money to purchase and develop a site at
Duleek in County Meath.

One of the other men is James Mansfield Junior - a former boyfriend of the
late model Katy French.

The proceedings against all four men has been transferred to the Commercial
Court and adjourned for a week.

An outbreak of the winter vomiting bug has led to visitor restrictions and the
ongoing work to rule industrial action means phonecalls to the hospital are not
being answered.

Speaking on Tipp Today, Aine raised the case of her 80-year-old uncle from
North Tipperary who has been in the hospital since last Thursday and has had
no contact with his family.

10 cameras have been installed at strategic locations around the town in both
business and residential areas.

The system, which is monitored at the Garda Station, cost almost €300, 000.

Labour councillor Denis Landy is hoping the cameras will in particular put an
end to problems at the children’s playground at the Fairgreen.

Farmers are protesting outside a Greencore meeting in Dublin this morning,
where the company is expected to approve the sale of the Irish malting business
to a French Co Op for up to €116 million.

Noel Delaney, the Fethard-based IFA Grain Chairman says 500 farmers have
lost their contracts in the bid to cut the amount of barley in the EU by 25 percent.

He says Greencore did not express an interest in their offer for grain farmers to
take a 25 percent cut across the board.

Padraic Greed from Killea, Templemore, appeared before Limerick Circuit
Criminal Court charged with burglary and false imprisonment.

The Limerick Institute of Technology student had broken into a house on the
Old Cratloe Road in Limerick in March of 2008 while highly intoxicated.

The 23 year old kicked down the toddler’s bedroom door and took him from his
bed, before wandering around the house for a time.

Judge Carroll Moran was told Padraic Greed has paid €10,000 compensation,
abstained from alcohol and stayed out of trouble, while a probation service
report stated Greed is unlikely to reoffend.

He was bound to the peace for three years.

The expedition, led by explorer Pat Falvey, decided to call off the journey after
one of the team members showed visible signs of frostbite on two fingers tips
having spent five days in temperatures of minus 40 degrees.

Dr Clare O’Leary, a consultant at South Tipp General Hospital, is the third
member of the team

The team set off on March 1st with an aim to complete the Three Poles
Challenge - which is a challenge set to reach the three most extreme poles on
earth : Mount Everest, the South Pole, and the North Pole.

A Tipperary man who hid guns in the bathroom of his home has been
given a five year suspended sentence.

32 year old Michael Hutchinson with an address at Cormac Drive in
Nenagh pleaded guilty to five charges relating to the possession
of 2 fire arms, which were found hidden hidden behind a bath panel at his home.

Hutchinson orginally told Gardai he had no knowledge of the firearms but
then admitted he was being paid to store them.

At Dublin Circiut criminal court today, Judge Tony Hunt took in to account the
man’s personal difficulties and handed down a five year suspended sentence.
