The IFA is accusing South Tipperary County Council and the National Roads Authority of penny pinching.
According to the organisation’s South Tipp Environment Committee Chairman John O’Flynn both bodies have failed to complete compensation negotiations with over forty landowners on the route of the new Cashel to Mitchelstown road.
Mr. O’Flynn, who’s from Fethard, claims the situation facing farmers is particularly unjust as the value of the compensation proposed for the compulsory purchase of more than 1,100 acres is tied to January 2006 land values.
He’s also calling for the NRA, South Tipperary County Council and landowner representatives to enter into negotiations in order to ensure that every landowner is paid in advance of the opening of the new road to public traffic.
